Part Time

The Part-Time Law Clerk – Law Library supports the daily operations of the Dougherty County Law Library by assisting patrons with navigating legal resources and understanding court procedures. This role involves organizing legal materials, providing research and administrative support, and helping clients—especially self-represented litigants—locate and use the tools they need for their legal matters.

This position also includes responsibilities such as setting up WebEx sessions for virtual court hearings, supporting Legal Navigators, and maintaining accurate records. It is ideal for individuals with an associate degree or at least two years of experience in a legal, administrative, or customer service setting, with a strong interest in law and public service.

Reports to: Legal Navigator or Library Coordinator

Work Environment: Office-based, with a focus on providing administrative support to the Law Library, Legal Navigators, and Director.

Flexible hours based on the needs of the office and department. The typical schedule is Monday through Thursday, 8:45 AM to 4:45 PM, with occasional Fridays from 8:45 AM to 12:00 PM.

Key Responsibilities


Library Organization & Resource Management

  • Maintain and organize printed and digital legal materials

  • Catalog and file legal books, forms, and guides for easy patron access

  • Update and manage internal databases of available resources

Patron Assistance & Legal Information Support

  • Assist patrons with locating legal forms and understanding basic court procedures

  • Guide users through legal self-help materials and digital research tools (e.g., Lexis Nexis)

  • Provide professional and respectful customer service to a diverse client base

Document Preparation & Packet Management

  • Help patrons complete legal forms and ensure accuracy for filing

  • Assemble and distribute legal packets for sale

  • Explain packet contents and how to complete each form correctly

Research & Legal Reference Support

  • Support patrons and staff with basic legal research (training on Lexis Nexis provided)

  • Locate statutes, case law, and instructional materials as needed

  • Maintain and update legal reference collections

WebEx & Virtual Hearing Support

  • Assist in setting up WebEx rooms for virtual court or mediation sessions

  • Ensure technology is functioning and space is properly prepared for privacy and usability

Community Outreach & Education

  • Coordinate outreach campaigns, community workshops, and public presentations

  • Promote awareness of law library services and available legal resources

  • Provide information to the public on how to access support

Collaboration & Reporting

  • Collaborate with staff to align with the organization’s goals and strategies

  • Track and report outreach activities, usage metrics, and client feedback

  • Contribute to the development of reports and materials for grants and fundraising

Minimum Qualifications

Education

  • Associate degree in Legal Administration, Criminal Justice, or a related field

  • OR a minimum of 2 years of experience in a legal or administrative capacity

Experience

  • 1–2 years of experience in a law office, legal services, or administrative role

  • Experience with legal document preparation or court procedures is a plus

  • Familiarity with Lexis Nexis or willingness to be trained

Skills

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail

  • Excellent customer service and communication abilities

  • Ability to manage multiple responsibilities in a public-facing, fast-paced environment

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook)

  • Experience with legal research databases or case management software is a plus
